Welcome

The Catholic Church continues to support health care reform legislation that upholds the dignity of human life, and grants access to all with a special concern for the poor and inclusion of immigrants. Any legislative proposal that moves through Congress must ensure that no public taxpayer dollars are used to fund elective abortions. The Stupak Amendment that passed the House of Representatives in November meets this principle, but a similar measure was tabled in the Senate. Despite this setback, the Church continues to call for health care reform that protects conscience rights and upholds the life and dignity of all persons, especially the poor.

The Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit, which provides a small benefit for those who are working but pay a disproportionate level of payroll taxes, is in jeopardy due to state budget difficulties. According to recent reports, the average median income of those who receive the tax credit is between $10,000 and $15,000. Please take a brief moment to telephone your legislator and the governor today, and kindly ask them to oppose any measure that halts full implementation of the state earned income tax credit. Visit website…

Michigan Catholic Conference has approved a statement that does not support the call for a constitutional convention in 2010. Michigan voters at the November 2010 general election ballot will decide whether or not the state will conduct a constitutional convention in 2011. Article 12, Section 3 of the 1963 Michigan Constitution calls for a vote of the people every 16 years to determine if delegates appointed from each House and Senate district should rewrite the state’s guiding document. Read press release…
